Mother knows best

joanneseto koi

I made this card for my mom the other night after my vacation just in time for mothers day. I had tried a new fountain pen that I received from one of my good SpentPencil friends.  It was definitely a fun drawing to do as I haven’t done anything more than a few lines with the pens before so i’m still pretty new at the whole process. I finished it up with some orange, red and blue water colour which i’m also getting familiar with as well. It’s always great to try new media as it opens up my eyes in the different textures, feeling, colour, etc.

I can’t write enough about how much my mother means to me. She has truly been such an inspirational figure in my life and is honestly the most ‘chill’ mother one can ever wish for. I’m so lucky to have someone like her in my life to teach me great lessons and being there for me when I don’t even realize I needed it. She has gone through so much in her life and really deserves the best. She’s someone I can truly proudly look up to and learn from.. I only wish for the best for her and hope her journeys will inspire others as well as I know it has.

SO, here’s to all the wonderful mothers out there that look out for their kids and believe in them no matter what they choose to do. Stay happy and keep fit mates :)

Azterin Complete

Here’s how Azterin came out. I was falling short on time so the buildings are a bit wonky and incomplete.. so they’re still at a early stage.I’ll defiantly have to come back and clean it up but for now this is how it turned out which I’m quite happy with.

Thanks to many of you who have been here with me since the very start to watch this develop. It truly means a lot to me.

And you may have guessed with these completion posts that it’s the end of my semester, So i’ll be away for a few days, but i’ll be back shortly and update some recent sketches!

See the process work for Azterin here on my matte painting tab!

Azterin WIP – Is that real?

So, I didn’t get my matte painting complete tonight but i’ll try finish it up tomorrow in class. But here’s what I did get done, which I think is a pretty far stretch from my last post. I still have to add textures to the foreground, make the water look real, yada yada and so on. Hope this brings some colour into your day!

Azterin WIP – Final Rush

I tend to get caught up with small details and forget about the other 20 things that have to be filled in. Anyway here’s what i’ve been working on after work today. I’m having trouble deciding what to do with my main structure, but i’ll figure something out…I hope. So here it is, hopefully I can get more done tomorrow. What am i saying, Hopefully I can get it done by tomorrow!

Azterin -(WIP) Texture Stage

Here’s where I am with my matte painting which is still a bit far from where I really want it to be. It’s crazy how quick deadlines come and it`s not that I don’t love matte painting but it’s not exactly the biggest priority for me right now and this is what I have to show for. I’ll have to finish the textures before monday and hopefully get it projected in maya soon. It’s coming together alright but i still think it’s looking a bit flat and fake so i’ll defiantly have to spend a few hours working with this, yay

See the process up to this point here!

Azterin- Texture Block

It’s fairly rough, i’m still in the process of placing the right textures for the buildings and mountains. There’s a lot of work I didn’t realize that went into matte paintings. I mean, you’ll see it in a movie in the background of course, but a small percentage of people don’t really know how much goes into a matte painting or might even mistake it for a real scenery, which is good. Well, anyway this is where I am right now with the help of Bojan of course.

Azterin- Colour Block (WIP)

Just came home from my matte painting class and thought i’d do a quick update on Azterin.
For anyone who was wondering if I got the grey lighting done, I got most of it roughed in, yay!
The next step is to finish with the colour and start bringing in textures.
Bojan helped me out with deciphering the colours and this is what it looks like so far.. It fairly blocked in and very rough at this point.

Due to the high altitude the sky will be much darker than you see here.
Still long ways to go but it’s really starting to come to life!

Azterin WIP

Honestly didn’t get a lot done tonight. I was mostly playing around with brushes and rock formations. You know how it is, testing the water etc. I  should really stop getting distracted so easily. Tonight’s defiantly a slow night, i’m hoping I magically finish the shading before Monday.

Here’s a screen shot of my layers. I have about over 60, half or so which are from the outlines from the earlier posts so its not so bad. I’m also using a Wacom bamboo tablet to work with which is great because its wide enough and great for duel monitors. So this was mostly a process post, behind the scenes if you will, so enjoy!

Azterin WIP

A quick update on what i’ve gotten done so far, which isnt a lot to be honest. Schools been pretty hectic, lots of deadlines to make.

I have to give most of the shading credit to my prof, Bojan, who helped me out with a ton, he’s truly an amazing matte painter. Anyway here’s what it is for now pretty much just scribbles, I basically have to fill in the blanks for every piece.

Check out some of Bojan’s amazing work!

Azterin WIP

Here’s a quick update on my matte painting, i’ll probably end up writing a whole bunch of notes and end up deleting it because I think I’ve written too much. Happens every time.

Back on topic, i’m ecstatic about the positive feedback on my concept sketch! Cheers to those who re-posted it and shared it around. Since it was only a concept sketch, I took it into 3D and played with the camera angles then rendered the shot yada yada and started to paint a cleaner concept over it with Photoshop,

This is my rough idea, I`ll probably only be posting this once

Blocked in some grey scales

So here it is without the scribbles all over it. It`s coming together! Like I said, work in process.

Keep in mind this is still `in the making`. I still haven’t gotten around to filling out the void spaces (the building and clouds). I`m also quite behind on my shading..but i`ll catch up! So stay tuned for more updates as I move along.
